Online Course: An Introduction To Jazz Improvisation

That’s right! I’ve created and released an online course called ‘An Introduction To Jazz Improvisation’. This is very exciting for me, because it took a really long time and a lot of effort to complete, but also, it means that more people will be able to access my jazz tuition and enjoy learning jazz improvisation than I could do on my own. And ultimately it’s about getting as many people as possible to understand, appreciate and love jazz.

The course is currently available on Udemy, which is an online learning platform that boasts the world’s largest selection of online courses.

The course I’ve created features over two and a half hours of on-demand video content, with effective exercises over custom-made jazz backing tracks, and it covers the fundamental concepts of jazz improvisation.

Much of the course explores in detail three of the essential and most common jazz chords - the major 7, dominant 7 and minor 7. You’ll learn what function they play in the musicality of a jazz standard, what the chord tones are and why we play them. How the different chord tones sound over different chords. And by the end, you’ll take all of this further and use this knowledge to start creating lines, phrases and melodies.

As I’m sure you can tell from the title ‘An Introduction To Jazz Improvisation’, the course is for beginners of jazz improvisation and it takes you through slowly, step-by-step, explaining any technical terms as you go.

I hope you enjoy it.
